1994 850 volvo ticking tappets

1994 850 volvo ticking tappets

My 850 2.o Volvo as now done 208k,with the appearance of ticking tappets at start up from cold.
Anybody had any success stories curing this annoying problem without resorting to taking the tappets out cleaning and or replacing them.

If it only happens when cold, try an oil filter with a check valve (Mann, Mahle, Mobil 1) or a thinner-weight winter oil (5W or so).

Go to a thicker oil like 5w40 or 15w40 preferably with a diesel rating. MANN/Volvo oil filter with anti reversion valve is crucial.
