Most people are on this forum because for some strange reason, they care for others. I'm sure part of it is due to the support they have received and simply want to play something forward as they now say. Anyway, it not going to hurt any of us if you drain the fluid and put Crisco or water in there. Most are just trying to help stop a bad theroy from spreading any longer.

I will read the links post as time permits.. Mainly I was trying to figure if the change was due to problems with the trans or just normal maintenance. Sounds like it fixed problems in the trans..and that is great.. It is suggested to change the fluid if a problem it there.. I don't seem to have problems and the man said to leave it alone.. I might change some or all at some point, but not sure as of now..Thanks for the feed back.. This forum has saved me a FEW dollars over the couple of years I have been here. I am doing a lot of my own stuff now and collect information to made choices for the future. The Earth is not flat as so many thought it was.

Within the first 3 months of owning my car, I changed the fluid (it was shifting just fine at the time).
Here's what it looked like.

Keep in mind that should be a bright, clear red. Yuck.

'Nuff said. Refer attached document from Vadis. How the dealers choose to interpret is their business. They have a vested interest in more failures.

With the miles on your clock Shane, I would probably not change all the fluid at one time - often problems will show up. I would recommend only draining and refilling the pan which i do every two oil changes. I would also recommend Dex VI the additives are good for older trans. I am at 178 on my 98 V70 AWD and only hoping to get the kind of mileage yours has. I figure when it dies I'll go back to the 1992 245, she's got 328K on her, but should be good for another 200K or so!

I agree with the point that if it is showing some problems then a change is in order. When I went to purchase the washers I didn't have anything going wrong with my transmission, just thought it could use some new fluid. Well I should let sleeping dogs lay, because now the transmission seems to be slipping a little. On cold start, I don't let anything warm up. It is in gear and out the driveway in less then 45 seconds. I know ,not good. It seems to slip a little, so I think I will do the slow change and order some washers from someone that will sell them to me.
applcor, You are saying to use DEX VI in it? I have only heard about the Dexron III, and changing the pan fluid every other oil change, man I am way behind schedule.
Precopster: On the Vadis pdf. I opened the file and the information was good. Tried to click on "changing Oil" and it wasn't able to open that part. I guess I need to get Vadis in order to read it.
Thank for all the input. A change is coming soon (transmission fluid).
Shane

Nothing wrong with that; that's how cars are meant to be driven. Just keep it under 3000 RPM for the first couple minutes. Letting it sit and warm up for a few minutes is actually bad for the car.It is in gear and out the driveway in less then 45 seconds. I know ,not good.
VI is fully backwards compatible with III - choice is really up to you. I use the cheapest III fluid I can find as a cheap flusher since I run mine on the Mobil-1 stuff.

Those washers are the same as the oil pan bolt washer so their a dime a dozen. I'm on the change fluid ever 25k plan. Three drain and refills every 100 miles. Sorry to hear that you are having a little slipping. Some of these trannies have been neglected so long they are just waiting on that last straw to break the camels back.obayha wrote:and order some washers from someone that will sell them to me. Shane
I don't want to wait for trouble to deal with my tranny. I'd like to avoid it before it comes.

I think it was the dirty fluid never having been changed in mine that led to trouble with a solenoid later down the road.
