ignition cylinder

I have a 2000 v70se with a ignition cylinder problem. I have gone through the various threads and know it is time for a new tumbler. Before I buy it I just want to make sure that is the problem. When I insert the key it will not turn at all,it will not go to position one. I have tried wiggling it and turning the steering wheel without any luck. The shift unlock button doesn't allow me to shift into neutral and the steering wheel is locked. Is there anything I can do to unlock the steering wheel and release the tumbler so I can drive until I receive the new one?

Have you tried removing the electrical portion of the ignition switch and then checking it again? Most of the key side failures that we see are failures where the key will never stop spinning. It is possible that something jammed in the electrical side of the switch which would actually be a blessing. The electrical side is much cheaper and easier to replace.

Sticky wafer in there?
Maybe a shot of lube.

I took Lee's advice and removed the electrical switch, still hung up. I then sprayed that side of the tumbler with a lubricant and after two three wiggles it worked. The only problem I had after that was I had to take the key back out to put the sensor ring back on! I took it off when I sprayed the lube in the tumbler. A little nervous about that but when I put the key back in, it worked. I 'm still getting the new lock but a least now I have a car. Once again, thank you. I can always count on you guys.

Soon or later, you will need a new tumbler.
I got mine from "Waltrip Volvo in Franklin, TN" for $210.
It is worth $210 because I plan to keep the car for another 8-10 years.

Ebay stuff are used with tons of mileage on them. The tumblers last about 13y/110K in my case.

Already ordered new one. My car has 177,000 miles, just broken in. Thanks for the advice.
