Help, Advice and DIY Tutorials on Volvo's P80 platform cars -- Volvo's 1990s "bread and butter" cars -- powered by the ubiquitous and durable Volvo inline 5-cylinder engine.
Got a ton of front end work today, in addition to a bit of regular maintenance, and I'm loving the results. However, there was one rattle that didn't go away. I just figured out that it's my hood - it's a bit loose and just pushing on it a bit when closed makes it rattle like crazy.
Anybody ever have this happen? Known issue? Fixes? '99 V70.
I haven't had a chance to check the latches. Dark and spent 8 hours on other things....
I will. I also found a thread (from a google search, didn;t come up when i searched forums) on the issue that I bumped. It also discussed a problem with the driver hood latch sticking shut, which is one that I occasionally have.
The problem was interesting - it is solved. It actually solved two problems -the failure of the driver side latch to release (latch is fucntional), and the rattle.
At the bottom section of both latches, where the hood 'hook' would settle at the bottom of the latch, there used to be small rubber bumpers / shims. These were IN the latch mechanism. They were completely worn away. I superglued some small pieces of tubing cut from the overflow lines directly behind the passenger latch onto the spot where the bumpers used to be, and all of the problems were solved.....
Had nothing to do with latch position or the square bumpers that are on the hood. Or the grill, for that matter.
