As of Friday I'm back in the Volvo fold.

I had a 1970 Volvo 142 as my first car, a 1984 240 as my.... shesh I don't know what number I was up to then, 18th or 19th car, and just purchased a 1998 V70 XC.

I got it for $2,100 so I feel like it was a good deal. Things I knew it needed prior to buying were: right fender and hood (dented), rear cam seal and PCV system.

I have already replaced the fender and hood (the seller helped me change the hood at his house), did the RCS this morning and am trying to find the best PCV kit. Going through the forum, I've seen where people have said not to go with FC Groton (or whatever the name is) or IPD because of the tube quality. The local Volvo deal doesn't have a "kit" for the PCV system..... so, where's the best (economical) place to buy a full kit?

I'll post up more pics when I've finished detailing her, but until then here are some teasers.

Welcome to the site and congrats on your "new" Volvo.

IPD and FCP can both source OEM parts for the PCV system for you, and that's the route to go in my book. Check out the tutorial for the PCV system pinned at the top of the 850 forum.

BTW, I uploaded your pictures to the site so they're not cut off at the edges and moved your topic to the 850/V70 forum

Just another question... I've searched and searched (40+ pages) trying to find something about checking/replacing the fuel sender on a 98 V70 xc. The fuel gauge is stuck at zero, but the car is running just fine. Any help would be appreciated!

From what I have read on the XCs you may want to hold that fuel guage repair off for a while. The sender is part of the fuel pump assembly and you will need to drop the rear axle subframe down low enough to access the pump assembly.

There is a special tool that removes the tank ring that will make this job a lot easier.

Looks like a very nice XC. They are getting harder to find now.

Nice XC score. Looks good so far. I have use FCP and iPd kits for the PCV job. I also hear complaints about the hoses, etc. but from my understanding that was from a couple of years ago. Not sure if it's still an issue or not. I guess I'll find out. I think the system should last 60k or 5 years, that's the cycle I plan to use. The main difference in the kits from what I have experienced is that the iPd kit has hose clamps that screw on and the FCP kit has the OEM type crip on clamps that require a tool to install.
