speedo replacement

have the dreaded dead speedo in my 90 740 - given all the trouble others have had with the re-cap procedure i figured a straight replacement was the better option - i was able to pull one (yazaki) from a donor cluster but it has substantially higher mileage (100k km more!) - is there an easy way to wind back the donor before i install it?

There's also always the old log book that just says "Odometer replaced at 123456km with used unit showing 234567km." Depends on whether you're planning to resell it.

don't think i'll ever sell her - i try with all things to keep everything as original as possible - since i have the old speedo removed separated from the cluster i just thought that i would ask around - i had originally thought of replacing the entire cluster but the donor is missing the voltmeter and turbo gauge - probably just easier to pull the original cluster and drop in the "new" speedo

in a lot of states here in the US, anything over 10 years old is exempt from mileage requirements and/or disclosure, so it wouldn't matter anyway, except for your own peace of mind

i wish it were that simple here in Ontario - we have report mileage each time we renew our registration/road tax or transfer ownership
