New carb idles smooth but runs rough when revved

Post by Nuttydriver »

Hey guys I'm having problems with the old chevette and I'm hoping everyone on this wonderful site can help me out. It started out with a bad float in my original carb for my 81 chevette. Instead of rebuilding the carb I had found a new one for a decent price and bought it. The old one was causing the car to run real rich and made it run real rough. I put the new one on this weekend and now the car idles very smooth just as it should but as soon as I hit the gas it spit and sputters and bucks when I'm driving down the road. I tried adjusting the air fuel screw in and out about a half a turn with no difference at all. Do you think the previous rich condition could have fouled out the plugs or something?

Doesn't that one have the carb with mixture control solenoids?
Are you sure the electrical connectors are plugged back in?

I found a bad fuse for the gauges and now the check engine light is on. The previous owner also had the fuse for the computer pulled. I'm gonna have to figure out how to get the codes and go from there.

Go figure… it turns out the electric choke on the new carb is sticking from the factory. Back to the old school choke cable. Lol
