Suggestions for buying used volvo??

Hi - we currently have an '86 240 SL which we've loved, but its really on its last legs (i think nearly 300k!) We also have a new baby, so are concerned about safety, etc. What model/year of used 4 door would you recommend if we want to spend under 16k?? We concerned that some of the newer version break down a lot more (due to all the electric parts, etc..)

I bought on january a 2001 xc70 with 95000 miles. I bought it on ebay an im very pleasd. Although the engine had a hudge sludge built up and suspension problems i have had a good deal on it put a little bit more for service and mintance and now the car is ok and im still under about 6000 - 7000$ under the dealer prize. I dont recomend this way of buying a car becouse ther is a big risc comming with it. I bought allready 3 cars throug ebay (concorde, XC70, Allroad) and i wasn't dissapointed on anyone.

We just bought a real nice 2000 V70XC, last year of the "bricks"
Black/ Charcoal (black) with integrated booster seats.
A REAL NICE XC.

broken record here....you now own a 240 & want a real Volvo? Then buy nothing newer than 98 and absolutely NO AWD pre - 2003 PERIOD (then see rule # 1) - I don't care who's maintained it or selling it, the same moron's designed & built it.
