• navigated to an image
• in File comment I typed This file's name is "background.gif"
• clicked Add the file button
• clicked Place inline button

Now I'm trying to include those two images into this third post without re-uploading them.

Nope, that doesn't work. I know there's a way to achieve that, it'll come back to me.

To make a caption for a photo, use the File comment field in the Upload attachment tab.

You can do that

Right-click and copy the link from the first one and place it in an

tab. I do it all the time.

Yep, that's the best (most straightforward anyway) way. You're right. I was humoring the inner-geek in me. If I can get my way to work, it'll pull in the caption also.
