DICE what can it do?

Post by precopster »

Have had my new Vids/Dice and OBDII unit from China a couple of months now.

Installed it on my laptop and tried the supplied user name for Vida All-In-One in the Readme file on the supplied DVD and it doesn't work

The DICE software loads and communicates with the car via the OBDII unit they supplied in that it supplies the car's battery voltage.

Has anyone here used DICE? Is it only for telling the car's battery voltage or is mine a cut down version? There are menus in DICE but they only tell me the version number of the firmware in the OBDII unit.

As I can't get the Vida component to work I am about to message the seller so fingers crossed on getting a password.

Is VIDA the software which reads CELs and SRS codes or is it DICE?

DiCE is a modem and little more. It translates car computer languages into a language that works with the PC with VIDA loaded on it.
VIDA has a very rigorous anti-piracy deal that has to be hacked in order for it to work so I assume they have hacked it somehow. Normally it is locked unless an online connection is made regularly that unlocks it again until the conditions require it to once again be unlocked.
You should find DiCE as a program in the All Programs list. Once opened there is a DiCE Diagnostic selection and you can open it and click CONNECT to see that your DiCE connects. There will be some buttons to allow checking various DiCE features. Firmware Upgrade is another selection and it shoulkd be upgraded to assure the firmware is the latest that is compatible with your DiCE.

Thanks jimmy for your response. DICE does work with the hardware unit they sent me, the Vida All-In-One is what doesn't work. Is it VIDA which reads CELS then?

I'm happy to pay for a subscription for the licensing but have SCOURED the internet looking for the site which provides licensing and have not come up with anything. Can you have help with the web address of the site that deals with licensing?

VIDA is not offered nor intended for private users and is EXPENSIVE. $8500/year or $45 per day if you get it for 3 day or 9 day short term spans.
VIDA reads the codes. I know of no other software that uses DiCE as interface to extract codes.

VIDA all in one software needs to be installed correctly and working before you can do anything with it.

Dice is just the hardware that allows VIDA to communicate with your car's ECM. If VIDA was not installed correctly, then your setup is useless.

VIDA 2010 B, or C or D works the best, installed on winXP pro SP3 or win7 pro with internet explorer 8

Thanks JDA. So far for my laptop I've fulfilled all the software and hardware requirements. The Vida monitor tells me Vida is loaded.

Interestingly on my home PC which hasn't enough hard drive space on C drive (I've loaded it three times on the other partition with more space) it won't start. It seems as though the installation absolutely must be on "C" drive.

I'm in the middle of giving the supplier a screen capture as he has responded to my message for help. I don't know if these copies have been cracked like Vadis. I know that this software was conceived by Volvo in the knowledge that attempts to duplicate it and sell it were in mind. That means security will be tight.

My version is 2011A. I'll keep you informed.

If vida all in one is installed correctly indeed, then open vida (no dice yet)and see if you can open instructions,ie. like replacing the alternator.

If you can see all the diagrams and instructions, then vida is installed correctly and post back and I'll try to guide you how to make dice communicate with the car.

Well the seller emailed instructons that weren't relevant to the DVD version I had.

I found a patch file on the root directory that seemed to change the way it logs in. It now doesn't go to a WDA web login screen and fail to load it as it did before.

It just tells me that the supplied username is invalid; very frustrating. I've used the username located on a Readme file on the DVD and also the username that the NEW instructions provide.

The VIDA status icon eventually says that the Vida service is running when the machine is booted.

It will not log in until the VIDA monitor is green. The failure popup looks like a wrong user name and password message.
It was going to WDA login or to WSL login?

also since you have version 2011A, that might be your problem.

I have read on other forums, lots of folks having problems with the latest vida, ie 2011A install.

You don't need 2011 vida, see if the seller would send you version 2010 B, or C.
