1991 Volvo 240/No start
Ive just spent the last couple hours checking this car out. The car does not turn over. I thought it was a dead battery. Got the battery checked out and it was good. I cleaned off the cables, still no turn over. Have power to the radio and accesories. The original problem with this car was the car cut off and could not be restarted. What could kill the car like this? Seems to be something in the ignition. What is the power flow from the key to the starter? You turn the key nothing, just the lights on the dash come on,No starter turning.I can hear a buzz in the back, fuel pump. But thats it,bad starter. But that would not shut down the engine.

Sounds to me like a bad starter solenoid. The Haynes manual has a procedure for testing the integrity of the solenoid while in the car. I suggest you check this out.

If you have a good battery then likely not a bad alternator.
Starter solinoid, starter ground cable, ignition relay...all of these have caused me similar problems. When you turn on your key do you hear the ignition relay click...it is hidden behind your ashtray? See other items in this form for the the ignition relay or fuel relay. They can also get intermittent. The relay controls both of the two fuel pumps and the ignition controler.
I also had a starter ground cable come off...the cable to connector can flex over time and break off. Check both ends of the cable.
Good luck
