Green triangle

Post by Des »

Another unsolved problem. On my 94 850 turbo green triangle warning light is on for a long time.Went to garage, they tested and told me that ih have samwhere turbo leak.I been told that is not dangerous, and if I can ignore that light,no problem. But when I'm in turbo field(turbo gauge),I can smell bad smell. What should I do,Des

Don't think we get that green triangle in the U.S....do you have a Canadian car or are you overseas? I believe the triangle is Lambda light, indicating a problem with the O2 sensor, but I may be wrong. What kind of smell is it?

Bear with me...just a theory on your smell and your light. Okay, so the light is probably the lambda light which means it's most likely the front 02 sensor that is bad. This is actually good news, if true, because an 02 sensor is cheaper than a new turbo. So, the 02 sensor senses (as the name implies) how much air (oxygen) is going through your engine. If it's not working, then it will think that not enough is going through, or too much, and adjust the fuel and air mixture accordingly. If it adjusts too much fuel into the mix to burn rich, then you'll be left with a more sooty/smelly exhaust. Either way, you need to get your codes read and report them back here (go to an AuzoZone or other autoparts supply chain if you have them there and they should do it for free).

Also, I read on another forum where someone was buying 02 sensors in Canada for $90 Canadian for our cars, so if this is what your problem is, report back and I'll post that information for you, or you can email me if you want, and I'll find it for you and send it back to you by email. I would agree with Made in Japan, it is the Lambda sensor, I have the light on and I don't have a turbo. But I have noticed the increased fuel consumption, as if it wasn't bad enough.
I will have to get it replaced this week.
