FCP seems to carry few parts for B5244T engines?

Post by choogenboom »

Tried to find a head gasket kit on FCP for my 2000 V70R and usig the search by car filtering on FCP web site was directed to:

http://www.fcpgroton.com/product-exec/p ... ory_id/125

When you read the description its for a 2.3 liter B5243T engine. I called FCP and they said its the right kit for that car/engine. I disagree. I suspect the problem is their web site does not distinguish between V70 and V70R which is why it got it wrong. Is that correct, and if so, FCP can you improve your site? Note that IPD's site seems to get it right.

Also, best I can tell FCP does not sell a B5244T2 head gasket kit. Is that correct?

If you have no luck finding the right part, a email to the sales team usually solve this.

I did call FCP and their position was "They got the engine information from Volvo, The B5243T is correct engine for 2000 V70R, and they do not sell a B5244T2 gasket kit". I am hopinng this post will help clear up the confusion.

It looks like the information you're searching for is in the numbers.

The correct gasket for your engine is 9404726.

In other words; they do carry it - but it's the same as the non-turbo engine rather than the 2.3T engine.

Thanks for your help with the part number. Odd that FCP could not supply this help when I called them. Hopefully they will add the "R" sub model to their web site's part filtering to correctly locate parts for the B5244T2 engine.

I too have the B5244T engine but in a 2000 V70XC. I recently tried to buy an intercooler hose for my car. The intake hose that sits between the two metal pipes (part #9161091). When I went to replace the old one and was comparing the two, it was apparent that the new hose was not going to fit in my car.

I found the correct part at www.swedishautoparts.com (part #9445355). FCP does not carry the right part, so I called them to discuss.

Over the years, I have learned that the 2000 V70XC was constructed in a way that is often different '98 and '99 models. FCP told me that the B5244T had two releases or versions in 2000 and that mine is the later or second version. The sales rep said that Volvo did not produce enough of these engines to justify mass producing the hose I am looking for. Consequently, I have to buy it from the dealer for about $60.

I wonder if your situation is the same as mine. They should be able to tell from your VIN.

fyi, I believe the B5244T is a 2.4L engine.

Best,
Jon
Thanks a bunch,

Its become apparent as I source parts for my head rebuild that the B5244T2 engine had a very limited and short life. Most parts are common with other engines but seems you found one that is not. IPD does have support for the V70R and the B5244T2 engine in their parts filtering system. FCP does not, but hope they will add it soon?!
