Re: Very minor issue but I'm stumped
I had a similar issue with a non-Volvo. The Idle Air Control Valve was twitching for reasons unknown. A swap with another unit and the problem went away and didn't come back. Could well have been just a dirty connection. I don't know if the Volvos have an IAC but I've had issues with the IAC on a few different makes.

I don't think a 99 have IAC due to the fact that it has a ETM instead of the old cable-driven throttle body.rmmagow wrote:I had a similar issue with a non-Volvo. Pretty sure it's an 02 sensor so I will buy a front VOLVO sensor (&*(&*#$^ again)
My price is $200 even... absurd, but aftermarkets don't seem to always work well.
I don't even want to think what retail price is for these but I don't want to do this twice so I'll go with a Volvo sensor the first time
Put it on a scanner and the long term trim is high, (22).
When we reset all the parameters it runs fine (like when the MAF was put in), but I'm sure in a day it will act up again as it adapts.
I am getting not so great mileage and it is running rich, so I'm not going to screw around with this any longer.
The last thing I need is a failed CAT converter!
I guess this will be a Sunday project so I will post back on this by the middle of the week

Front sensor didn't do much
Bought a Bosch rear sensor and both small 02 harnesses.
(Something I didn't know is these harnesses do go bad, in fact they come in the box with the rear sensor_!
So far in the driveway it's VERY smooth idling and no idle drop to 700 RPM when blipping the throttle, tomorrow's driving will be the key....

Do 2000's have an idle control valve?
Our 2005 Jeep was doing something pretty similar, and while cleaning the valve worked somewhat, it would still hunt around when pulling up to stoplights and shake a bit. New valve, smooth as...well, not silk - that's one of the roughest engines ever put in a car, but it idles smoothly!

Nope
Controlled by the ETM (which also is new)
I'm going to push Volvo for another ETM, this one has 900 miles on it)!
I did what they asked and no change and if anything it's become a hair worse

If you don't get another ETM for free, why don't you go the Xemodex way ? Less hair pulling imho.JRL wrote:Nope
