Front Door Speakers Have Absolutely No Sound

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Front Door Speakers Have Absolutely No Sound

Post by ACk »

Hello, my front 2 door speakers and rear left have absolutely no sound. the rear deck speaker and front 2 tweeters work and rear right door speaker! and its not the fader/balance either. i removed the front door panel and disconnected the wiring harness and inserted a tester to the multiple pins and one pin lit up and i did the same for the right door, same result. am i doing this right? could it be the applifer that under the seat that may not be putting out a signal? what did i not check? or did i do the checking incorrectly?

Any advice/help is greatly appreciated. :)

Next: hybrid/td04 turbo's and custom downpipes and exhaust system!
After: tower bar front and rear, H&R suspension, and 18'' wheels, ECU.
then going to look into the intercooler and the piping( but i think its good for 320+ HP

I hope you plan beefing up the transmission before those mods you listed! Unless you dont care of course, but the tranny barely handles stock power/torque as it is.

Cant help you with the audio issue, sorry.

Hi boosted5, oh YES you bet im beefing it up. Any day now! i found 4 shops around my area where they rebuild these transm. However one of them so far said that he can beef it up with high performance parts and adding a trans go shift kit and etc.
Its a little to steep to send it out to trippleedgeperformance , as far as shipping that is. Anywho, thanks again. :)

Which stereo head unit do you have? What year is your S80?

Well, Since you have a mix of front and rear signals and a mix of right and left its not your head unit.

I think you have several things going wrong. The front tweeters are wired in parallel with the front door woofers so if they are working then that channel is working.

Best approach is to make yourself a short speaker pair with alligator/test clips. Connect a sound source to each speaker to confirm it works. Then connect a reliable speaker (not tester) to the car wiring to see if the signals are there.

2005 S40 2.4i (Bought new - since sold)

Hi fazool, thanks for the reply budd, i have the 1999-2000 model S80 T6, single disk, i think its HU 601? dont remember right now. So what i understand is you are describing this for me to do

remove the wires/connectors of my front speakers
connect a sound source, radio, etc. whatever, to the speaker direct, if they work then it means the speakers are good.
and connect other speakers ( good ones) to the wiring system thats coming from the headunit?

and after doing these steps i will be able to determine whats up with the sound ..
Yea thats perfect, i dont know why i didnt think of that route :)

thanks again.

Look at your speakers to see if 1. Your cones are punctured 2 check the magnet I had the magnets fall of of some original volvo speakers (had to glue them back on) 3. Check the wiring inside the speaker going to the terminals they can also separate from the speaker. If none of that is wrong your head unit could be going out.

Hi, yes i had all these symptoms checked very carefuly, the coil sires, magnets and the overall funtion of a normal speaker and they look good. Im prety sure, the head unit send the sound via wires to the amplifier and then from amplifier to the speakers, so im going to check the amplifier wires and connection as well. If i do find that it is the head unit, maybe i will replace it with a aftermarket unit with a large screen, (pioneer, sony etc.) thanks again.

Had same problem... left front speaker did not work.

Bought another amp... still not working.

Found below link:

http://www.volvo-forums.com/t34013-all- ... orking.htm

Basically, there is an in-line box for Sirius / Bluetooth install that fails. Just unplug the box... connector goes directly into the amp. It is located under the passenger seat (US). Three bolts hold the amp into the floorboard.

Remove the amp. The connector (green, about 16 wires) on the opposite end of the fiber optic connector (small, 2 wire) is a bypass connector... you will see similar green one if you trace it with your hand.

Unplug the connector from the amp, and unplug the "other" connector. Put the "other" one into the amp.

Done.

Disclaimer: one possible solution... many potential causes including bad amp, bad head unit, bad speakers.
