I spent over $3K on suspension work/RF wheel still knocks
Re: I spent over $3K on suspension work/RF wheel still knock
I had the exact same problem and ended up replacing the springs, struts, sway bar and links, and tie rods in an attempt to get rid of the clunking sounds. When I pulled the struts apart I checked the strut mount visually and tried to twist the bearing and everything looked ok. I put all the new parts and in took it out and...still there. I thought I would give the struts mount a try since it was relatively cheap and fixed everything. Give it a try and start with the cheap stuff first if you don't what the problem is. Good luck.
I had this problem. This was exactly the solution for me as well....

I replaced:
Strut mounts (3)
Sring Seats (5)
Bump stop (7)
Dust boot (9)
Strut (10)
Sway bar end links (one of mine was bad, but I did both) (11)
Parts, OEM Sachs except for the Meyele HD sway bars, was around $400-$450 give or take IIRC. This fixed my clunking in the front end. I wouldn't replace the shocks as they are pretty much a lifetime thing, they don't tend to wear out unless they rust away.
I think, but just a guess, 85% of the clunking in the front ends are due to worn spring seats (5) and bad sway bar end links (11).

update:
Come to find out that the mechanic just needed to add more axle grease to everything and the "knock" went away. we came to the conclusion that the axle and hub needed more grease. that's all. I was all pissed off for nothing.
thanks fo the replies and advice anyway.

My money would still be on the strut mounts. With the car sitting in the driveway , with the bonnet up, bounce it as hard as you can , and you will hear them knock
