Help identifying this hose

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Help identifying this hose

Post by marimol »

Hello Everyone,

I came home from work, parked the car, got something to eat and decided to go out for a bit. When I turned the car on, it said to turn it off because the coolant level was low. I opened the hood and saw that the level was below the "Low" line. I poured in some more coolant, started the car and began looking for leaks. I found a ruptured hose but I don't know what it's called. I was hoping someone would help me identify it so I can buy it and hopefully change it myself. I don't know how much the dealer will charge for changing it, they might tell me I need a coolant flush, which is what they told me when I wanted the coolant reservoir changed. I changed that one myself, so I am hoping to do the same with this hose. Here are the pics that I took.

Does anyone know if it is hard to change? It doesn't look like there is enough space to mess with it.

Thank you in advance.

That is a hose that provides hot coolant to warm the crankcase vent hose to prevent freezing in really cold weather. It is straight hose and I believe it is 10mm/3/8 inch. The crimp clamps can be cut with side cutter pliers to remove and worm screw clamps used in place of them.
DO not use hose marked for fuel use. IT will not last long. A Volvo dealer should have the correct high temp hose or a NAPA store would likely have coolant rated 3/8 hose. A lot of domestic and imports use hose that size for throttle body heating coolant lines.

Thank you so much. I gave your reply to my brother, since I had to go to work, he bought the hose from NAPA, got rid of the clamps and installed the new hose. He said it was a bit of a tight squeeze trying to get his hand down there , but it all went great.

Thank you for your help.
