HU-615 to aftermarket Head Unit: Volvo V40
Re: HU-615 to aftermarket Head Unit
Above is the factory head unit that came as part of the premium sound system. Like you said, the adapter I used will not work for your car. You could install a head unit using the parts I listed, but it won't sound very good, and doesn't solve the adapter issue. I had no idea there were different versions of the HU-615. Pretty interesting.

I'm sorry - I was unclear. There is only one version of the HU-615 head unit. The whole overall installed system is different.
I don't recall the exact specific items but its like this (this is a montage of different years so some specifics may be different)
Basic system : HU-6xx 8 speakers
Performance system: HU-6xx 8 speakers + 200w amp + subwoofer
Premium system: HU-8xx 11 speakers + 300w amp + subwoofer + center channel w/ surround sound
I think the Premium only included the HU-8xx series because it needed the center channel output. If you have the HU-6xx and a subwoofer and amp then you might have the performance system not the premium.
Again, this is sort of fragmented info based on my three different systems so it might be a little different on your year/model

The picture Qhoove posted shows only an 8 pin adapter and is labeled 615. The picture I posted shows 6 and 8 pin adapters and is an HU-615. It seems like there might be different versions. Unless, Qhoove, do you have something other than the 615? That's one thing that has never been addressed in this thread.

I re looked at the OP picture and the label does say 615.
I think maybe that pic above is a 650 - it looks like mine and as I recall, the 615 might not support the external amp, but I dont recall.

Hey guys, the head unit is definitely an HU-615, I'm mainly trying to install this headunit so I can install a subwoofer, so I had already planned on installing an external amp, with the adapters (besides Autoleads PC9-414 Wiring Harness Adapter) could I still install the new head unit, or will I still need a DIN adapter?

Again, I am doing this from memory.....and a montage of my experience with my HU-650 and my HU-615 and my other-year S40, so I might be a little foggy on my details.
OK,l so the HU-615 has two DIN connectors. One is a 6-pin and thats for the pre-amp outputs. The other is an 8-pin and thats for external MelBUS accesssories (CD changeer, satellite receiver).
If you want to feed pre-amp signals to an external amp, you need the 6-pin DIN connector. The pin-outs aer in the diagram below.
This head unit does not include the center channel or a sub channel output so you will need an external amplifier that can separate those channels. You probably want a 5-channel external amp or a 4-channel amp with pre-amp outputs to daisy chain a second sub amp.
