Not shifting into 4th gear?

I am currently driving with the abs unit out. I had to send it out to get repaired. I read on there website for the abs repair that some of the symtoms would be transmission shifting problems. Just wondering if anyone else has lost there 4th gear because of a abs unit failure? It shifts 1,2, and 3 with no problem and super smooth but traveling around 80km/h and up it the rpms just climb and going about 120km/h the rpm is almost 3800rpm.

The ABS system is for braking. I have never heard of anyone having shifting problems with a bad ABS module. Have you checked your level?

Have you scanned the system for other codes?

You should still be shifting into 4th.

Here is a link, about half way down under 1999-2000 symptoms it says engine light may be on and transmission may not shift correctly. The fluid I just changed 4 times and it's clean as can be and right on the hot mark when running and up to proper temps.

Could the PNP switch be effecting the shifting? I know it only really effects the shifting from the shifter itself no really the internal shifting of the transmission but being new to owning a volvo this thing as sensor and monitors for everything. One sensor goes back it messes with everything.

Yes the PNP switch can effect shift points.

That's going to be my next thing to remove and clean. I just wish I could get some sort of flashing arrow or engine light on to narrow it down. Since the abs unit is no good I have those lights on with the engine like but the only code is p1550 which is because of the abs unit.

I would think a bad PNP switch would toss a code.

I would think so but it hasen't yet. What's weird though is that I have another abs unit here that I got from the previous owner when I bought the car. I installed it a few days ago and all the abs lights and engine light cleared and stayed out. Then I drove it home, went up a slight hill under load and the flashing arrow started and engine light came on. Every since then the transmission hasen't had 4th gear.

I swapped the old abs unit back in and of coarse have the abs and engine light on but no flashing arrow anymore but still no 4th gear either. Then again on the link a posted of the company or guy that repairs the abs units under symptoms says, transmission shifting problems, engine light and flashing arrow problem. So I have either a tranny problem, abs unit or possible pnp switch. It never ends with this car. I just need it to last the winter but don't want to burn the tranny out in the mean time.

If you thing the other ABS unit works put that one back in. As for the tranny not shifting into 4th, it is likely not related to the ABS. I would put the other unit back in, clear the code and see what happens. Tranny problems are tough. If the car goes into limp home, it will not shift right. However, you said it revs higher than 3,500 which is rare for limp home mode. Maybe this bump can help you find more help.
