All repaired. The shop put a sleeve over it after cutting off the bracket and connection. About $75 and took about 45 mins. Real quiet now.

I have a 1997 Volvo 850. I'm having a continuing exhaust leak at the catalytic converter - muffler connection. The converter was replaced because of a PO429 code and that problem was solved.A new clamp was used and the muffler pipe was still in good shape with no deformation or was not too rusty.
Now we just can't get a seal at this junction. We tried a new clamp, and then the Bosal clamp after the new clamp didn't solve the problem. We then replaced the entire muffler, and still have a leak at this junction. The 1997 doesn't use a gasket at this joint like the earlier years did. How do you get a seal at this junction

Not an expert on this, but I would just go pick some exhaust sealer stuff that they sell at any autoparts store (putty or tape) and do what you can to make it a tight fit.

It sounds like you are close and may just have a small hole. Seal it with something made for sealing exhaust holes, may just not line up perfect.
