hello tying to help carleyb ! she lives just down the road . With research ive found that the problem could possiable be the ignition switch !? Gonna order one of these ! aslo read that the software might need upgrading ? does a dealer need to do this? also read on here that when disconnecting the battery might possiable need a code for the radio? gonna try the oil in the ignition cyc. before replacment off switch ! havent seen the vehicle yet but carley says it runs and drives good just that the lights kill the battery ! also read about cem be subjectable to water ,should i clean the connector {and with what} and re grease with dialetic grease or lithiumn grease? This is her dd and she needs it for work! any other maintance ideas ? also looking for a fleet service manual any one know where i can get one? ive read alot of post and would like to get this right for her! tks all info will be helpful !! oh yeah im a jeep guy so if your having any problems with your jeep let me know tks robert

I am not at all familiar with the 40 series cars but the behaviour you describe with the clock and the odometer is perfectly normal on the 70 series. Even if it is not normal for the odometer to stay on there is not enough parasitic draw to kill the battery by itself.

Please be patient and refrain from multiple posts to bump the thread and also please refrain from creating additional screen names to accomplish the same. I noted that both posters were registered from the same IP address.

If the battery and alternator has checked out OK then the next step is to look for an excessive parasitic drain. The procedure is all the same no matter what car it is.

Remove a battery cable and place a DC Ammeter in series with the battery cable. After waiting for the interior lights to time out make a note of the reading on the ammeter and then start yanking fuses, one at a time, until the reading drops substantially. At that point note the fuse number and check the items associated with that fuse, one at a time.

Normal parasitic drain is under 100 mA but my observations on my Volvos is that it is actually under 50 mA.
