Welcome the the MVS forums. Here you will find a community of like-minded Volvo owner/enthusiasts. People who enjoy sharing information and discussing all things Volvo. It is also a place where people come to share their expertise and experience and to ask, and answer, questions of each other.
There are tens or hundreds of thousands of cars out there, exacttly like yours. The chances are high that whatever you are experiencing - someone has already experienced it. If you have a question about your Volvo, someone has probably already asked it.
So, instead of waiting for an answer, you might be able to find the answer immediately. If you are here to post a question, there are a few things you can do to get your answer faster from the MVS community:
First, check the MVS repair database. There is a huge library of posts there with specific details on repairs, diagnostics, servicing, maintenance and upgrades. Many of these posts are highly detailed with diagrams, photos and videos.
Second, search the MVS forums. Many posts and a wealth of information is already captured in roughly a quarter-million (so far) posts. If it's not in the repair database, it might be in the forum discussions.
Third, narrow your question down. Work in the appropriate forum for your specific model. If you post in the wrong place, you will have a delay while no one sees it, or knows the answer, then a moderator will have to move your post, then you will start the clock again. Stick the correct forum.
Fourth, and most importantly, when posting a question provide enough details so the people generous enough with their time and expertise can actually help you. State everything you can about your car including the exact model, the year, the mileage, any relevant options. INclude as much information as you can about the symptom or question you have. Don't be vague or general. It's better too much more information than too little. This will only help you. And when you are non-specific, it frustrates the very people trying to help you, because they have to spend time asking you questions to get information so they can volunteer to help you.
Avoid vague questions like "Hey there! my Volvo did that noisy thing again like the other one and waddya think is wrong?". How can anyone answer questions like that? Help everyone help you.
Give more information than you might think is necessary, espceially about anything special or unusual about your Volvo.
For example, you bought a used Volvo 850 and post a question about why your tires don't fit. If you would have mentioned that your car is metallic pearl color, one of the MVS forum "detectives" could have told you you bought a rare platinum edition 1996 (only 1500 shipped to the US) and those came with special 16" wheels, instead of the standard 15".
Another example, you are considering an all wheel drive 850 with only 42,000 miles on the odometer but the seller seems a little shady about the service records. Well the Volvo "experts" could tell you that the AWD 850 was only sold in Canada, not in the US, so your odometer is in kM not miles, and your odomoeter/cluster was changed out.
You see? Even little details that don't seem relevant might help others help you.
Type more information.
Remember - letters are free and there's an infinite supply of them.
