Blower Motor

Has anyone replaced a blower motor on an 05 S60? The thing is squealing like crazy. After owning two 850's with squealing blower motors I thought maybe the newer models would have resolved that issue but apparently not. Thanks for any information you may be able to offer on changing it out!

Yes, they squeal too, but on a better note than the previus models

If you need a procedure, I'll send you one as soon as get back to my home office...

Just replaced mine last week. It is a reasonably easy job to do, I completed it in my driveway in the winter. All the instructions that you need are on this site under the repair database including what tools you will need. I purchased an aftermarket blower from Rock Auto at a significant discount. The only catch is you need to remove the voltage regulator from the old unit and install it in the new unit. I also used the plastic body from the volvo fan as it was a higher quality and better fit. Be careful removing the trim piece as the clips like to self destruct if it is cold out. Better to warm the car up in a garage before you pull off the trim piece.

Have fun, there is really only one T-25 screw that is hard to get at, I used a flexible drive socket to get at it...

Post your experiences please. I've been meaning to do this on my 07 S60. It squeals a little. I intend to disassemble and clean/lube/grease the bearings to see if it will quiet it down before a full-blower replacement.

I was a little nervous about doing some damage so I tested a couple procedures on my older S60. The mini shock absorber on the glove box door is brittle and has a snap-on joint at one end. This will likely shatter upon removal. Its a cheap part (about $10 at the dealer) but you will likely need a replacement.

The longevity of the temp fix will depend how old the motor is. Given the amount of time it takes to get to it, I would just change it one time... (Just my humble opinion)
