Smoke issues

Post by drucken68 »

Hello MVS! I am new to MVS but have read a bunch of the posts. My story goes as follows: My 95 850 GLT non turbo is blowing smoke out of the exhaust at quite a good clip. I bought the car about 8 yrs ago with 135k on it. I was given no prior knowledge of any unusual events such as head gaskets, etc. The oil has always looked like there is white sludge in it, though it seems to be getting worse. I short trip the car to death, it rarely gets a trip over 20 miles. Its leaking oil in fair amounts, probably adding 1 qt every 1000 miles or so. I did the PCV change, and still have some smoke from the dipstick tube immediatly afterwards. I have no oil in my coolant bottle, and have not had to add any coolant. What I am wondering is would it make sense to drop the oil pan and get the sludge out to see if that helps, or should I head in other directions such as valve stem seals or other ideas? The car is almost ugly, and not worth much to anyone else, but it still wont quit, so I am just cautiously investing little bits at a time to keep it going. Any input would be appreciated!

Sounds like bad oil rings if it smoke's all the time during running and going down the street , I would be more abt to say bad valve seals if it only smokes at cold start up after the car has sat over night. Try some no smoke on your next oil change it may help a little, but with high miles it may be ready for ring job or rebuild. $$$$$$$$$$
