850 - Where does this wire go?

Post by williamregan »

I have a 96 non-turbo station wagon with 144,000 miles on it. I was cleaning my battery cables and I noticed that there was a cable that was not connected to anything. It's the rusty one I'm holding in the picture. It splits off from the B+ cable, the one that goes to the fuse box, about 10 inches from the battery.

Can anyone tell me where this cable goes and what it is for?

Thanks,

Bill

Not sure but it looks like a clip to secure it out of the way. May be some kind of test lead.

I have 5 thinner wires going into the the wiring harness to the fuse box. 2 go the connector I first posted about which is poking up between the red wires in this photo.

The other 3 go to something on the bottom of the battery tray - in the lower left hand corner of the photo. What the heck is it? Is this standard Volvo wiring to this part?

Thanks again,

Bill

The unoccupied plug looks like the fog lights harness. Check under the bumper on the other side, you will see one over there too.

The device under the battery tray is the cruise control pump. The wiring does not look familiar but I'd have to look to really know.

That's what I thought, too. Look for a firewall penetration and follow it back.
I'll bet you find some abandoned RCA's and a remote amp turn-on lead.
