Hello guys.
I'm comming from 850,s,v,c,xc70 forum.
I'm in the middle of negotiations for buying a '97 460 with 1.6 engine.Good looking car, good engine,interior...etc,but what confuses me is that there are no airbags. No airbag in the steering wheel,no airbag for passenger and no code key.Car is for european market.
Can anybody of you guys tell me is this car really a '97 by VIN number and does it need to be equipped with airbags & code key?
Here it is:
XLBLY173EVC762...
I have all tables about how to decode informations from VIN for 850,s,v,c,xc70,but these 400 are new to me.
Thanks in advance,
Misha.

The Vin numbers for the 460 are decoded the same as for the others. The 10th digit, V in your case, is for 1997.
My data book shows that on the 460 up to 1993 a driver's side airbag was optional. From 1964 the driver's airbag was standard. The airbag location(s) are marked by the inscription SRS. An airbag label was also located in the glove box and another on the windscreen. Of course labels can disappear but the SRS on the steering wheel......?
A little more information from my data book - mechanical pre-tensioners were fitted as standard from 1994. Look just in front of the seat belt buckle and you should see the pre-tensioner. If the vehicle is fitted with SRS then there has to be a warning light on the dash which should light up as you switch on the ignition and go out after 10 seconds.
The only reference I can find to the key is how to reprogramme it which would make me believe it is not coded.
I hope this is of some help.
Bill.

Thanks Bill.
I should go to see & test drive the car this week, but snow storms is Serbia are stoping me.It is snowing for 2 weeks almost without stoping. Most of the roads are blocked, the temperatures are from -10 to -25 degrees Celsius and this condition lasts about 2 weeks.Very unusual (that low)temperatures for Serbia.
This is the info which one member from volvoforums.uk gave me about airbag on this specific car according to it's VIN numbers:
http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=144798
According to him,the '97 460s which are made for "Dutch" market ONLY,have no airbags and that configuration is ONLY specific for "Dutch" market.

So that's where the snow went. I live in a snow capital of the US and we've had the mildest winter ever.
