Can one acquire a VIDA / DICE DVD ? (or is it vadis)

Post by fazool »

I see a lot of value in the diagrams and repair instructions coming off the VIDA system.

I see VIDA dvd's on eBay and wasn't sure if one can just buy these and install them.

DO they need to be registered with Volvo in order to work? Are these legit or are these black-market discs?

I don't want the diagnostic tool and am just interested in the PC software.

Any thoughts?

Mine is 2010A from alibaba.com; came activated (no internet required). It came with the DiCE (which is a CARB modem with a USB output) and you can do everything except for software reload, which will require paid subscription and authentication 'as a shop' over the Internet. So far it has paid for itself about a dozen times (the price I bought it for was $165 delivered, which equals 1.83333 trips to the stealership.) I have it on a dedicated machine running WinXP SP2 with IE8. Installation on Win7 may be possible, but I have not had time to play with it.

If you have a reliable cable and a 'thingy' that can translate from CARB-ish to USB-ish both ways, then you may skip the DiCE.

On another note, the VIDA can run standalone without the computer-to-car connection.
If you do not need to 'talk to the car', you can just run VIDA to look up diagrams, part numbers, procedures, etc.

I couldn't get it to work on Win7 64-bit. Apparently it will work on 32.

UK seller norrisuls sells a nice working copy which works fine on my XP with IE8 setup: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/180790888139 ... 1497.l2649
Don't you know; everything is legit on eBay

His copy also comes with a wiring DVD: great value at around $15!!

As far as the Alibaba sellers stay away from Shenzhen Digiobd Electron Technology Co., Ltd.
Their DVD won't allow sign-in and the Dice diagnostic unit I bought from them is faulty.

I may have used the wrong name.

I think I was looking for VADIS (the aftermarket version).

Do I understand correctly that VIDA is the SW to communicate with DICE and VADIS is the standalone afgtermarket?

Too many acronyms E-I-E-I-O

So, ammending my question:

Can I buy just VADIS or do I have to register that? I read mixed things and got the impression some are bootleg and need to be registered etc.

Is it only available to shops?

I have had an 'eBay-VADIS' for several years now as well; came on a DVD with install procedure and admin credentials - no registration required. Includes MY up to 2005 (I believe).
Great quick-reference source for component diagrams, torque specs, part numbers, and procedures (some of the PNs may have been superseded though) but still searchable.
I have run it on 32-bit WinXP SP3 and Win7 machines.

I downloaded VADIS through a torrent. Setup instructions are a bit confusing, but after it took like 2 hours to install, I've had it on my work machine (XP 32-bit) for over a year. It's really helpful for some things and totally useless for others. It's VERY hard to find certain things in.

Be careful with P2P file transfers, there is too much malware in the wild. Some of the downloads are infected with malcode that can be costly to hunt and remove 8)
