IPD or FCP GROTON???

Post by MESINCITY »

Looking to do a pretty substantial overhaul on our 1999 S70 T5 (Automatic)

What are the general thoughts? Overall impressions? Quality vs. Price vs. Service on FCP Groton Parts vs. IPDUSA parts???

I've used IPD before and not had any problems...never really used FCP Groton...and of course, there's Erie Vovo and VolvoWebPartsOnline...

However, I'll be replacing a LOT of the front suspension...and FCP sells an entire suspension package versus me having to piece it all together from the, Volvo or IPD...haven't done the math yet to see where pricing comes out better.

Comments? Horror stories? Good stories?

How about part quality???

There's IPD's HD stuff, the OE stuff and their AFT (aftermarket) stuff FCP Groton's AFT stuff...and of course, our usually over-priced local Volvo dealer...who I don't have anything against and promises to usually be able to have parts within 1-2 days from my payment...

Thank you all!

I've bounced in & out of here before...appreciate the excellent information within...and am at a point where I can no longer put off this "deferred maintenance"

Oh, by the way...parts I'm looking at are:
-Control Arms
-Outer Tie Rods
-Spring seats
-Strut Mount Bearing Plates
-CV Boot / outer / driver's side
-Strut Dust Boots
-Steering Rack Dust Boots
-Strut "Bump Stop"

Availability of parts: FCP
Quality of parts: Both the same
Price: FCP is cheaper overall, and for the time being they are still accepting the forum code.
Service: (big strickler for me) IPD, but not by a great margin.

I am positive others will chime in on this subject, so don't worry, you'll have plenty of reviews to study before making a decision.

I'm wishing I bought the HD spring seats from IPD. The price is similar to OEM and they will supposedly last longer (the originals in my S70 failed at 78,000 miles).

Type in "mvscc" at checkout under coupon code. It entitles you to receive 10% off of your entire purchase.

I've used them both. FCP ships pretty quick, IPD is OK too. You're in Nevada so FCP may not be as quick for you as I'm in RI. Parts quality is OK at either. IPD has some more specialized parts, turbo control valve etc, performance type stuff. My only glitch with IPD is an engine mount I ordered, it is a URO part which had I known, I would not have ordered. There's an ebay guy, deutchparts I think is the name. Has a nicely put together front end kit for your car. I have bought parts from them before but for a mercedes, in fact a bunch of front end parts and the quality seems good as the car is still on the parts 5 years later and about 100K miles.

When choosing a vendor to patronize, all else being more or less equal, I look to the top of the page.

Are they a site supporter?

There is really nothing subliminal about it and I treat it much as I do NASCAR sponsors. Years ago my wife bought Cheer laundry detergent but I pointed out that Tide sponsored a car and Cheer didn't. We switched to Tide. The products are similarly priced and they both seem to get the laundry clean so we simply chose to use the brand that sponsored something I enjoy. My IPD and eEuroparts orders for this week are going in today.

It is a give-or-take event; sometimes one wins over the other with a promotion like 10% off a certain total (and/or free shipping).
I usually do the above 'Save the Basket' thing and then go for the lowest bidder.
Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.
Disclaimer: We (very) seldom do that

thanks to all...i'm still thinking...but really must place my order no later than lunch today (pacific time) the site supporter aspect was not something i'd considered...also did not realize there was a 10% at FCP with a MVS code (MVSCC)...

funny side note regarding XC90 spring seats people have been using vs. S70 OE spring seats or IPD HD Spring Seat...one of the parts folks at our local Volvo dealer told me that the XC90 spring seats are the same as the S70...perhaps he meant "same price"...I did not follow up with that question, however...perhaps someone can clarify better or knows the factory p/n#'s...

THANKS AGAIN to all!
