Hey
A few weeks ago I had the hanger for the exaust rust through and finally give out. So I fashioned my own and welded it to the exhause. But ever since then, and for a short time before, there has been a metal clicking or tapping coming from the underside of my car. Major bumps dont bother it, just slight changes in the road and little humps.
Anyone have any idea what this is coming from? All the other hinges on the exhause are good, so anything else that could get loose and start moving around?
Thanks in advance.

Is the sound deep or high pitched? Could be suspension.

It is a high pitched sound. It sounds like someone is tapping the exhaust pipe with a screwdriver. I think its coming from the rear, but it's hard to tell while driving.

I checked it out again and listened to it on the way home, it is coming from the front passenger wheel. I assume it is the suspension. When the car is parked, if I shake it I can hear the noise.
Any idea what the specific problem is? I know this is little information to go on. I'll probably have it checked out sometime over the next few days.

If the hanger was rusting and noise coming from the front of the car then maybe i can hazard a guess.
Did you weld the part near the rear tail end? Usually when this happens the whole exhaust sags and the pipe between the muffler and catalytic converter starts cracking.
If this is a non turbo model then perhaps the flex pipe on the exhaust manifold is falling apart too.
Only other thing i can think of is the axles or bearings are falling apart or... the brake shield is hitting your rotor?
Good luck!

Yea I welded the part near the rear tail end, its the last hanger. I proped it back up and welded it at the high it orginally was. I though about the cracks so I got it up on a lift to check out and I couldn't spot anything so I think the exhaust is fine.
It is a non turbo, so I'll check the flex pipe on the ehaust manifold.
I though about the brake shield, I've had problems with that caliper and had it replaced a month ago. They ended up replacing the brake line too, so maybe they knocked the brake shield around. I'll have to look at that some more.
Thanks for the suggesitons.
