tranny seal on rt. cv shaft. Can't stop the leak.

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

tranny seal on rt. cv shaft. Can't stop the leak.

Post by soookie54 »

I put a remanufactured cv axle in the right side of my 02 s80 T6. It was seeping some fluid so the local dealer replaced the seal @ $330.oo. Still leaks. Took it back and he said the remanufactured shafts are polished below tollerance and sometimes don't seal. I picked up a used shaft and the diamater is just about the same. It's about 44.09 mm. The reman is about 44.03. Is that little difference enough to cause the leak or can it be somthing else?

I have the same issue. Replaced with two Napa reman axles and two OEM seals and it still leaks. I believe you are right with the polishing theory. Do you have any further updates?

The second I am leaning toward is the carrier bearind on the shaft that has not been replaced during the remanufacturing process is worn causing the axle to wobble ever so slightly during rotation which is effecting the axle seal to leak from the movement?

okay, i replaced with another reman axle and another new seal with same result. I did have the transmission rebuilt not to long ago and now I am leaning toward movement in diff. of something in that direction. Does anyone have knowledge with tranny rebuilds?
