1997 Volvo 850 Base Air Pump and Air Pump Relay to be tested

Post by sothernmech »

Good night you all !!!

Does any of you know how to test these parts:

1- 1997 Volvo 850 Base Air Pump. I got an used in mint condition-exterior- but not tested
2-1997 Volvo 850 Base Air Pump Relay. It comes with the pump but the seller does not know how to test them but said to be working. I prefer " trust but verify" .

Thanks in advance for your help.

Usually i find that both the fan and or the relay are working and for one reason or another its just not turning on.
Its only supposed to turn on during cold starts and even then only for a minute or two.

Easiest way to solve this is to do the SAS delete.

Some people like to keep their car stock and I can appreciate that. But SAS is an emissions control system that was used briefly on these cars, then abandoned. You are not hurting the car or the outside or anything else by eliminating it. A $2 diode, a wire connector or some solder and 20 minutes of your time, and you are done with it forever.
