aftermarket keyless entry?

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

aftermarket keyless entry?

Post by asuper »

Hi, I have just become the proud owner of a 1999 S80 2.0T . Lovely car after my BMW and before that my XJ12.
I bought the car for a great price (steal) had to replace the air conditioning computer, ($400.00 installed and guaranteed, no sweat) My problem now is that I only got one remote key (lock-unlock etc) with the car.
The cost of another Volvo remote for this is prohibitive! I owned an automotive shop for 35 years and sold and installed many car alarms-locking systems etc.
I have still have(8 years after my retirement) a remote keyless entry system for cars with full centaral locking installed.
Can anyone help with the location and wiring of the central locking module that I could tap in to?

I doubt it, the alarm system is pretty dependent on the remote keyless entry

If you added an aftermarket one I think the alarm would go off every time you unlock the door (since the car wouldn't know what caused it to unlock)

There's probably a way to add replacement key FOBs, I know on the 98- volvos it went something like turn the ignition key from 0-2 3 times then hit lock on the replacement FOB, this might not work on the S80 though

Here is a link to a place which apparently has the remote. Sounds much cheaper than dealer. Suspect it might be used. And you still will apparently have to have it programmed by the dealer.

This was in my bookmarks file so not sure if it is still valid....

On my 850, the alarm looked for one of two signals to disarm, the disarm signal from the remote module or an unlock signal from a key used in a front door. I used the door signal when I installed the aftermarket unit in my car. The lock sends two signals at once. One is the lock or unlock signal and the other is a signal from the lock cylinder indicating a key is in the cylinder. As long as both signals are recieved at the same time, the alarm disarms.

Hi Billac1015 ,
I know this is an old post but I am facing the same issue as described here at your post and I am wondering if you could help me.
I am installing an aftermarket keyless entry in my 02 V70.
At the moment I am facing the following issues after I opened the driver's panel door:
1-I couldn't locate where is the actuator I assume this door would have been factory fitted as the car is factory fitted with keyless unity.Have you fitted an aftermarket actuator in this car? if you could advise how have you wired you keyless unity to the lock would be great.
2-You mentioned to have found a solution using the key switch to bypass the double pulse issue in order to disarm the alarm.
Could you please let me know how you have wired this to the keyless entry? Any help would be much appreciated.
