2000 s70 low oil pressure

Post by Vodopija »

Background - 202,000 miles - car has been sitting for 9-months. Started car to get it ready to sell. After it warmed up at idle, I noticed the oil pressure light came on. Oil is new and full. So I bought an oil pressure test gauge.
Cold engine at start oil pressure was 50-70 psi. As it warmed up oil pressure dropped. At one point it went to 0 psi. Shut car off and restarted it. Oil pressure stayed around 8-15 psi at idle and would go up to 25 to 30 above 2500 rpm. Also - I removed the oil cap while running and could see oil squirting in the valve train. I am thinking it is not the pump but is possibly the seals that need to be replaced. (The ones you have to pull the oil pan for). Any thoughts?

Hello, I have the same problem with TWO cars, a 2001 V70 Turbo and a 1999 V70 non turbo.

The odd thing is both were unused for about three months and had no oil pressure problems before.

Now both of them give warnings after four miles for the 2001 and eight miles for the 1999.

Volvo put a gauge on my 2001 and confirmed the pressure drops to zero after 4 miles, but did not say why - they wanted anothr thousand pounds to strip the engine and investigate. I replaced the O rings but it's still the same.

Anybody else got low oil pressure after the car being unused for a while?
