Too tall for Volvo 850 Seat

Post by M81388 »

Hi, I'm 6'1" and i've got a 1994 Volvo 850. I've noticed recently that my knees are starting to hurt when I drive so i moved the seat all the way back and my knees are still bent at a big angle. Is there a way I can reposition the tracks further back, buy a new set of longer tracks, or something; anything!

Thanks,
Mark

I agree with JRL here. I'm 6feet exactly and I have no issue. Maybe your seat isn't going all the way back? Is something stuck in your tracks inhibiting movement? Either that or you have super long legs and an extremely short torso.

no, i'm normal size, i took the seat out and was studying the seat mechanism, apparently there is a ball bearing inside the track that is supposed to hit the stop, when i go forward, it stops an inch short.

There must be a problem with your seat adjustment as I, a mere 5ft 10ins, have worked 8 hour shifts in the 850s with people up to and including 6ft 8ins and have never heard them complain of aching legs.

6' 6" here and the V70 is more comfortable all around than many cars I've owned.

Allright, thats fine for you guys. But the fact of the matter is: i'm uncomfortable in my car, and unless I can alter the seating arrangement somehow, i'm selling the car and buying german. I really like the volvo and don't want to change it, but if i have to, i will; so pleeeze help me out.

Thanks,
Mark

I'm 6'3" and have no problem with the seating. I don't doubt that you are uncomfortable. What I suggest is that you make sure the seat is "tilted" as far back as possible. The base will tilt quite a ways back and support your legs. If you don't have power seats, there is a lever on the right side which allow this tilting movement.

Hi

I'm about 1.9m (~6.2ffeet I think) ;)
I can tell you that german cars are not as comfortable als volvos. I tried some VW's, sat in some Audis, (BMW and Benz only as passenger). My s70 owns them all in regards to inside space / comfort imo.
Maybe experiment with the seat hight / tilt...
Well it's just my opinion ;)
