XGauge for Scangauge 2

Post by jtp »

So I just got my scangaugeII and it is really fun to play around with. Only disappointment so far is that it seems my can doesn't report air intake temp. I was pleasantly surprised to see a reading for transmission fluid temp though since I got a tranny oil cooler on the same shipment and I'll be throwing on soon.

On this scangauge webpage I need to know which one of these sets of initials my 95 turbo wagon corresponds to (maybe their communication protocols beyond the OBD-II protocol?): ISO, VPW, PWM, CANSF, KWP.

I'm trying to program in gauges for oil pressure and air/fuel ratio.

JTP, very cool. Does it push data to the ECU, like reset code commands? Or is it a read-only monitor?

The page didn't say, so I'm guessing read-only. Which is still wildly useful.

I've never sent codes to a computer so I'm not sure how it works but the manual says you can send four codes at a time to the ECU and get a response for each one. Not really sure what that can accomplish...

jtp,
On this scangauge webpage I need to know which one of these sets of initials my 95 turbo wagon corresponds to (maybe their communication protocols beyond the OBD-II protocol?): ISO, VPW, PWM, CANSF, KWP.

Just went through this my scan tool and OBDwiz software. ISO 9141. Might read ISO 9141-2. Should read the same. When you try to connect if it doesn't auto connect use manual connect(select ISO 9141 and then hit connect). For the longest time I just thought my 95 would not communicate but I did some research and found out on the 95 models baud rates nead to be slower initially for a connection to be successful.

Let me know if your set up will read tranny temps. Mine won't :(

Thanks dbeckwith, ISO seems to be the default so I was leaning toward trying that.

Mine is reading tranny temps. Idle @ around 200F and cruising without stoplights it gets down to the 180F range. I just got this scangauge II so I don't know if an older one with older software would read the tranny temp, but they do offer software upgrades.

Correction, I'm not getting a tranny fluid temp reading. I'm getting a coolant temp reading that I misunderstood to be the tranny fluid. As I'm learning about it though, if there's a sensor there and the info is being sent to the ECU, the scangaugeII is programmable to access that info. They don't list a code for programming it to read the MAF signal, for example, but somebody figured it out on an 04 s60 and that code worked on my 95 850.

If you know any good resources that I could use to figure it out let me know.

jtp,

If you figure out the tranny fluid temp reading I would be very interested. I also installed an atf cooler, but I am still having tranny shifting issues when it gets to operating temps, but I am not sure what they are(tranny temps) and I don't know if I could even do anything more about it. I was thinking of going to a synthetic oil hoping the synthetic would maintain viscosity characteristics better at higher temps than does the dino oil.
