Volvo STRONGLY suggests the timed recirc feature. Recirc being on is a reason why you'll see many cars with manual control of recirc going down the road on rainy and winter days with the windows all fogged up inside. Recirc allows your expelled moisture product of respiration to build up and the wet air condenses on cold glass.
Recirc being on when car is shut off greatly slows any drying of the evaporator that will occur when car is parked. This encourages stinky evaporator odors.

I just came upon this thread which sheds light into my hearing of the record flap opening and closing on its own BUT......I had a big problem with water coming into my passenger and rear passenger wells - thought it was the sunroof but turns out, after the climate fan blew, upon opening the blower motor - it was full of water. Removed and replaced but searched out issue - ever time it rained, water.

Removed cowl and the recirc flap was open but even when closed - water could still pour in - right into the blower. There must be a part missing - a cap or tent like thing, housing - over the black frame of the recirculation flap doors. Anyone know this part # or name or where to get. Guess I could go to a junkyard and check out some v70s.

Yes, you are missing the frame and air filter, but at least you get to smell all the great pizza down in Brooklyn as you drive.

Wait on a P2 I think the filter is down low, let me go look at mine.
