Oops! I broke my door.
Okay so it's no broken. I pulled off my front passenger side door panel. What I was hoping to do was access the other side of my door skin. There's quite a large dent in the from passenger side door that was there when I bought it. Everything in the door worked fine (speaker, power locks, door handles worked fine.) I wanted to try and push the dent out from the other side. Upon removing the door panel I notice in order to accomplish my goal I needed to remove all the interior door handle components while doing so I unscrewed the lever that attaches to the plastic handle and ping offs pops the spring and some unidentified object that hit my foot and has yet to be found. So pretty much I'm assuming that this lost piece is the clip that one side of the spring connects to. So as It stands I can shut my door open it from the inside as well as the outside the only issue is when it opens from the inside the spring that has nothing to connect to cant do it's job so the handle needs to be pushed back by hand in order for the door to close. So my question is where does this clip go and am I even putting the spring back correctly? Pictures will be posted ASAP.
if you unscrewed the bolt holding the bottom of the lever, then the return spring popped off. get a chiltons, picture 12.7, chapter 11 shows it. it is a wire like spring coiled up around the bolt you removed. what you are supposed to do is pull the handle off. the only reason I know this is cause I just took a door apart to replace outside mirror.
