Electronics Faulty. ABS Module?

Post by geokilla »

Just an hour ago, I was driving when I noticed that the ABS, handbrake, STC, and Coolant light all came on. This immediately told me that something died. Then a few moments later, the Speedometer, Trip computer, and Odometer died as well. Also noticed that the transmission was not locking anymore. A couple restarts and maybe after driving for 5km, everything fixed itself and all is well again. A quick search here leads me to believe that the ABS module is faulty. I'm thinking of bringing the car in to the dealer on Monday to get it checked out but at the moment as I said, everything is fine again. Would they be able to pull any codes and determine what's wrong?

For abs, handbrake, coolant light,stc...Ignition lock starts acting up.

For speedometer, trip computer, odometer could be ABS module ...but in any other case.

In this case, since all of that happened at once...i vote for a bad ignition lock/switch.

I would check b + wires as im going through same problem sequence now. Check alt to starter, starter to battery, and battery to fuse box wires for excessive heat and corrosion

An electrical issue almost always has an effect on the abs. Id say no on the abs module.

Dealer says it's an ABS module and quoted $1400+ tax to fix it. Maybe I can get a rebuilt one from you Matty Moo. But my mom is leaning towards selling the car... Has been for the past 2 to 3 years.

The ABS module isn't doing all of that, so don't throw one at it unless you take care of the other problem and the car continues to exhibit ABS problems.

Sounds like a faulty electrical portion of the ignition switch, as the posters above said.

The alternator was checked as that's what they thought was the problem at first, but alternator is fine.

There is some corrosion on the battery because that plastic cap is missing again, but it's not on the contact points itself I believe. I'll take a look at it or maybe call the dealer to see if they took a look at the battery when I brought the car in this morning. They did ask if I had any problems will driving or trouble starting the car when the lights came on and everything started glitching, but there was no problem.

Find a good indy mechanic. I vote for a bad ignition switch. How many keys on your key ring?? If it is a heavy key ring that'll contribute to issues. Wiggle the key while the car's running, see what happens.

It seems like they always say that, let's sell the most expensive non-returnable part and go from there. The abs module won't cause all of those things to happen at once, but the ignition switch sure will. More often than not, their bottom line is of more interest to them than your car.

Next time it does that, jiggle the the key in the ignition.

I have only one key. That's the Volvo key. I'm not fond of having a huge stack of keys. Don't understand why people do them.... Here's a video. Only the first 3 minutes are important. The rest, I was just trolling my sister
