Xenon High beam issue

2004 XC70 with the xenon headlights. the ones without the separate high beams, but with the motor that raises the lights up a tad. Well, the right light will raise up, but won't stay up. I have never seen lights like these before, and I am fairly new to the car. I poked around a little by the headlights, but can't really see how to adjust them, or where to really go from here....except the volvo dealer

any help would be greatly appreciated!

The xenons have level sensing with a rear control arm linkage to a height sensor. The headlamps each have a motor and a postion sensor. The RH lamp motor obviously works and since the LH is fine I would think your RH lamp position sensor is the issue. The lamps do come apart as the lens will come off and give access to the inside but will have to be clipped together.
The sensor will not be a service part but you may see that it is loose or some linkage may be off or broken. If broken you may see a way to repair that. The hard part is the bumper cover removal to get lamp unit access. It isn't really hard but you have to drill some rivets out and replace them.
Replacing bulbs through the rear access opening presents challenges and too much pressure while trying to get the bulb in and latched can break or detach things inside.

Wow, Thanks Jimmy! You seem to be a wealth of knowledge! luckily the xenon lights are bright enough that I don't really need the high beams especially in the City. I will have to fix it though....

Any chance you have the blow-up/drawing or photos of this linkage? I recently replaced the HID ballast on my '05 xc70 (BTW Don't buy this from Volvo...Dodge has it cheaper by $250) After the repair I notice my headlight is pointing a bit south. Haven't tried fixing it yet, was hoping it was a simple screw adjust????

I pulled the bumper for my repair, no big deal. Although I noticed that Volvo service must have jacked it up previously, couple of missing bolts, broken glass in hamplamp, bent retainer clip... UGH Dealer!?!?! Wondering if the linkage of which you speak is also a mess?
