Hello,
My 02 S40 has about 193,000 on it and is in great condition. I have had a small oil leak and the diagnoses is repair the PCV, which seems to be the cause of the leak and now there is oil on the timing belt. It's close to the mileage where the belt should be replaced anyway. This will cost me about $2000.
I'm not in a position to buy a new car right now and still love my S40. If I can get another year, at least, of driving I will be happy. The transmission seems fine (that repair would be a deal-breaker) so I'm inclined to go ahead with the repair.
What do you guys think? Anyone with a similar experience?

Do it! I'd definitely prefer to do the repairs than buy a new car. There's an adage that "the cheapest car to own is the car you own."
I'm about to do the PCV on my 98 S40 - but do it myself, so at least I'm not up for $2000. Unless I make a complete mess of it

The variable valve timing units can leak with age and high miles on the 4 cylinders. They should make sure that some of the oil leak is not that. If it is also leaking it needs to be changed while they have things apart.
