Hi,
New to this board - I will be "inheriting" my moms 2006 S60 Volvo soon. It is in great shape with only 32,000 miles on it. However, there is an ongoing issue that, so far, the Volvo dealer can't figure out. It isn't all the time but the last time I drove it there was a "clunking" noise that sounded like it was coming from the front end when I turned the steering wheel hard right (I think it was right but can't be sure). It is a noticeable sound with others outside the car mentioning it. This car has been very well cared for and only goes to the local Volvo dealer. It seems they can't replicate it or figure out what it might be. I'm concerned that it could be something with the axle that could effect steering and be potentially dangerous.
Tomorrow my mother is taking it to the Volvo dealer for a final inspection and I wish I had found this board earlier as I realize I might not get any responses this late. If anyone has ideas that she can share with the mechanics please let me know - I would appreciate it!
Thank you
Barri

Could possibly be the cv axle. Check the boots for tears. Also check the steering stops.

Does the noise come form the right when you turn it to the right?

Find some place you can make hard rt and/or lt turns and make circles if it keeps popping it likely low grease / ripped boot on CV shaft. If not check rack on steering being tight to frame if not that lift hood bounce front end check top rubber mounts for being worn/torn finally links at ends of front sway bar are known to pop and/or break due to grease coming out of sealed pivots. (Good sway bar replacement links come with grease fittings on them) gl
