clean up - Avon Skin So Soft, shampoo, Lava soap?

Post by jtwerp »

OK not sure if anybody has heard of this, but after working on my father-in-law's brakes he told me to use shampoo to wash my hands with. Skeptically, I tried it and it worked as well if not better than any hand cleaner I have ever used. I have used enough trust me! Not sure if the brand matters but the one I used worked very well. Just thought this information would be helpful if you ever get caught without something to wash with......

I have been making my own hand cleaner for years using Avon Skin So Soft and dishwashing soap or other liquid soaps.
At times I use charcoal lighter fluid.
The two mixed together gels a bit like some of the store-bought stuff. The SSS or lighter fluid is a good solvent for oil and grease with the soaps acting to ash the residue away. SSS mix smells nice when you are done so it is my favorite.
If it is an especially grimy situation I'll use salt for better scrubbing.

Doesn't Avon Skin So Soft have anti-insect properties also?

Yes, it does. It is the only thing that keeps the West of Scotland midges at bay. They are known throughout the civilized world as some of the most voracious insects ever seen.

Yes, my significant other sells Avon. Texas lots of horses and lots of flies. Our horses and loads of other horses around here smell like SSS instead of horse sweat and they have few bug problems.
I have cleaner softer hands.

I usually use liquid dish washing soap and a brush to try to get in the pours & under my finger nails. I also pre-soak some of my oily clothes in a bucket of water with the dish washing soap. I try to keep some dawn around for that.

I try not to use flamable solvents to clean myself up with. They claim it poisions us a little.

I just bypass the dishwasher and wash dishes by hand. Works great and gives the wife something to laugh at besides her goof husband falling asleep under the car :-)

Washing the car by hand after repairing is a great way to have a clean car and clean hands usually.
