sacer self install pictures / help??

Post by mrjacobrussell »

Looks like a new part wore out , again. My wife's 2000 v70 xc se 180k miles is doing the 0 to 3000 rpm idle then smooths out after 5 seconds.

she is also experiencing no power at all during acceleration.

I saw you can get the Sacer TPS from EBAY.com. Can it be purchased any where else ??

Is there a how to on how to self install this TPS ?

I took one apart 10 years back. You pry off the metal side cover after you go around the perimeter of that cover with a small screwdriver to dig out the silicone sealer holding and sealing cover. After cover is removed you remove TPS screws and then unsolder the hard leads to the TPS. The unsoldering part is tricky. You will need soldering wick. It is braided wire that is flux dipped and it has a strong capillary action to attract the solder when you melt it.
I looked at that Ebay auction and it seems they give you one TPS to replace the two on the ETM. There is a wire hanging out of the pictured Sacer TPS and I would assume that you unsolder only one lead on the opposite end original TPS and solder that lead to the lug out of the ETM processor. This my best guess, the seller has a note that instructins are e-mailed to you when you purchase the TPS.
Those parts are not a spare part you will find anywhere except in Xemodex's facility and this guy on Ebay that is likely connected to the part maker.

I have digital soldering iron and have built many megasquirt systems. I think this is something I should be able to do with good instructions.

If you've done that then you have it licked.
One of those pick/probe sets they sell at Harbor Freight and other places would be a help. The 90 degree end would work nicely to pull or push the contacts apart when the solder gets molten. Unsoldering tries one's patience.

Do the symptoms sound like a ETM tps failure ?
The car has a yellow label and has had a lot of Volvo dealer and Volvo shop work including the awd components rebuilt/replaced.

Is there a way to find out if the ETM software was loaded by calling a dealer?

If you call the dealer with the VIN they should be able to run it for warranty history and recalls.
The problems souns like the ETM. The ETM's weakness is the TPS's.
The ETM throttle shaft rides on two selaed roller bearings and uses a linear motor. It is is great piece except for the contact TPS weakness.

So I took the Throttle body off and cleaned it a few days ago to see if it helped with idle and accel. still no Check Engine lights for issues and I don't have a live data scanner yet so I cant verify if the tps signals are bad.

I drove the car for two days today i got on her hard... and threw a code at decel the car stalled. turns out the intake pipe popped off..

The funny think is the car was not making any more power with the pipe reattached than it did off..

I'm wondering if maybe the cat is clogged up ??

I'm going to test with out the O2 sensor( at manifold) this weekend when I have time. If the card has more power the assumption will be to replace or hollow the CAT..

I am in S. Oregon so no emissions

Has any one heard of the O2 spacer trick with a hollow or race cat ?
