2000 v70 Check Engine Light CODE P1171

Post by czmom1230 »

I hope someone can help.....Soon after I bought my V70 XC Wagon the CEL came on (April 2005). Since then I've had a new Catalytic converter and 2 different O2 sensors installed. Still that darn light keeps coming on!!
It's getting very frustrating and expensive!! My service man is honest and reliable, but I'm beginning to wonder....can there be some kind of fault with the light itself? Help! :x

What code are you getting when the check engine light comes on?

So far I haven't been able to bring it back in to get the code. As far as I know, the codes have told me to replace the above mentioned parts, and I have. But why would the light keep coming back on. Did I really need to replace all those things in the first place?? My husband is beginning to wonder if we wasted all that money if the light is still coming on.

Please let us know what the actual codes are and then we can help. Autozone will read them for you for free...no need to take it to a dealer or indy. Just write them down so you have them for this board.

Thanks for the Autozone tip....I did not know they read them for free. I will try to stop in and have them get me the code(s) so I can post them here.

Well I finally got to Autozone.....

My code is P1171. The man at AZ said it means my car is running lean??

Does anyone have any info about this code?
I would appreciate any help.

Thanks

I'm hoping "made in Japan" can help me. :( I posted this code a few weeks ago and still no reply.
I will have to take it to the dealer if I don't know what this code is. Can anyone please let me know if this is something to worry about?

Thanks again,
Valerie

Sorry...been away.
Here is info from Vadis. Use upper limit info.

Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) information

Condition

The control module receives information from the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) about the fuel / air mixture when idling at both the lower and upper part-load range. If the fuel / air mixture deviates from λ=1, the short-term fuel trim will compensate for this by adjusting the injection time so that λ=1 is achieved. When the short-term fuel trim makes an adjustment, the integrator median must be adjusted by the long-term trim. Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) ECM-261A will be stored when the long-term trim must be adjusted to almost maximum in the lower part load area.

Substitute value
none

Possible source

Upper limit:
-intake air leakage
-exhaust system air leakage
-low fuel pressure
-defective heated oxygen sensor (HO2S)
Lower limit:
-intake air leakage
-high fuel pressure
-leaking injectors
-defective mass air flow (MAF) sensor
-contaminated engine oil
-oil level too high
-defective heated oxygen sensor (HO2S)

Fault symptom
-none

Try everything in order from leaks to fuel pressure issues before going for the 02 sensor. Usually if 02 sensor it's the front one before the rear one.

Good luck!
