thanks for the input everyone. i cleaned the maf sensor and the car is running fine now which means nothing tomorrow as you all know. if the problem comes back i will do more of the troubleshooting when i have someone that can help me rev the engine as suggested above.
the maf sensor did not look dirty when i took it out but after spraying the maf cleaner on it a few times it looked totally different and new.
