12v receptacle (center console near coin holder)
Does anyone know if the 12v receptacle located on the center console near the coin holder can be put back in place? Mine has slipped into the center console - I can get hold of it but can't get it to stay in place. Keeps slipping into the console. I have a 2000 S70 GLT/SE
I had the same problem and my solution was JB Weld. You will need to spread some on the bottom side of the console itself and on the top of the 12 volt plug. You will then need to hold them in place for a few minutes while it cures. Have not had any problems since.

Did the same repair last weekend and the centre console is surprisingly easy to remove.
First I got the Volvo issued toolkit from my spare tire well and used the various torx bits to remove the screws. Start at the back of the centre console, you could sit in the back seat as that is the surface you need to work on., 2 screws there, then inside the centre storage compartment is another 1-2 if I recall. Then way up at the front behind the ashtray are 2 more screws and that was it. The whole centre console comes loose and you can lift it up to see what's going on.
I didn't have any JB weld on hand but once I figured out how the housing clips were broken I put the jack back into the housing and used hot glue, as it is essentially liquid plastic when hot. It has work perfectly since for charging phones and Ipods.

And even if you decide to take the console out, it is very easy. Instructions are on this site in the repair database. I took mine out to replace the shift indicator light bulb and it took about five minutes.

Here are some pictures that I took while checking out my center console.
TreadQuarters didn't re-install it properly: carpet was sticking past the center console trim, piece broken off the wood grain, and auto shift knob indicator cover was loose. Never going back there again. They couldn't figure out how to properly adjust the e-brake after replacing the shoes!

Here are pictures from replacing the light bulb in the rear 12v cigarette lighter receptacle of a 1998 V70 XC. After you remove the center console, flip it over and you can see the wiring underneath.
