98V70 T5 Air Pump

Hi,
The dealer's mechanic told me the CEL code pointed to the air pump being bad. How can I check if the pump works or not? I have it out of the car, should I be able to feel the pump work if I connect the wiring harness and start the engine? Is this a 12vdc device?

A common failure of this air pump is that they fill up with water after a period of time and then stop working. It will leak a bunch of water when removed. You can hook it up to 12 volts to test it. Mind the polarity. This is how I tested my junk yard replacement. I replaced mine with a SAAB pump. I had to swap a few parts between them but it works fine. I think this subject has been discussed quite a bit in this forum.

Thank you, I'll dig a little deeper in the forum. The old one had no water in it, but the shaft was really stiff to turn, probably bad bearings. In the mean time, I replaced mine with a used Volvo one of same model. We'll see how that works.

Volvo is terrible with these air pumps, I know there are a few links in the Repair database, showing you how to do some exchanges with other types of pumps, VW i think specifically.
