Do you have to remove any parts of the SAS afterwards? Can you just clear the code, install the diode, and drive off?

Bottom line: yes, you can just drive off.

But read the link I posted, it is all described in excellent and accurate detail.

Will update in a week or two if any SAS CEL's show up. Just installed the diode across A32 - A37 and disconnected the pump. Everything else was left in place so it's totally reversible.

Update: drove the car for several days: stop and go traffic, highway driving, hot weather, over 100 miles. Still no CEL! Moderators, please remove the picture on top. The correct write-ups have the diode across A32-A37.

I successfully did this, no more CEL for me. BUT, the car is running extremely rich when cold, like I have an open gas can sloshing around rich. Has anyone else had this problem, or know what I might have done to screw it up? The volvospeed link says to disconnect power to the air pump and the vacuum line at the tree. Power disconnected, and I only have one line hooked up to my tree, and I don't think it has to do with the pump.

Your problem is most likely unrelated to the sas delete. Check the basics; plugs, distributor, etc.

did this on my s70. Funny thing is the emmissions station looks my car up in the book to see what emmissions control devices should be present, and the air pump doesnt show up as present on a 98 s70

I have a 98 v70 I soldered the diode between 32 and 37 drove 200 miles...no code. Hooked up the obd no code....just started the car and let it idle for 15 minutes to warm up and I guess the pump is used most while idling and the check engine light came on. I didnt remove or disconnect anything for the pump I just installed the diode. How is it possible for the chec engine light to come on with the diode in place ? Im very confused and need answers.
