The volvo 240 gle from 1985 with a B230E engine came stock without a catalytic converter right?

Not an expert on the 240, but if you live in the US, I think every car made in 85 had a catalytic converter.

Yes your car did come with one. I bought an 1985 Volvo 240 wagon while stationed in Europe. They removed the converter while I was overseas but reinstalled it once the car was shipped to the States.
