Hi
have had many volvo's in my life but this one is a bain of my life and is becoming a money pit
problem is that when it's cold and in the u.k. thats been quite a lot this summer
the engine seems great, but when it warms up or the temperture outside gets warmer it
start to pink as if it over advanced,or to weak a fuel but we only get 1 type of petrol in the u.k. or high octane for supercars
it also has little or no power for climbing inclines when in this situation.
the timing belt was replaced along with tensioner, idlers and bottom seal but mechanic swears that it was
set properly.
Barnett's of Dundee the volvo dealership done a health check and no codes appeared but they listed discs, pads,
shockers and springs, but failed to notice breather blockage apparently not on health check list?????
the breather was exchanged and all pipes also as I had whisps of blue smoke from exhaust.
anyway when I was reading some other reports I started to see some posters had mentioned the pinking but
no solutions,
Cut a long story or question short does any one think that the tensioner may have been set to cold climate
or warm climate setting as there seems to be 3 setting altogether from what I have read up on so far
Volvo V70XC P2 2001 2.4 Automatic transmission
pinking engine/ or sound as if over advanced
the tensioner is on the back (slack) end of the belt, as the engine is running it pulls on the side of the belt opposite the tensioner so it's unlikely that a misadjusted tensioner will cause any difference in the engine
Could be the knock sensor I have heard of them going bad before.
knock sensor
coolant temp sensor
maybe even MAF
are what I would look at

Many thanks for your reply
wish I had known that when new breather was fitted could have replaced them then
but thought a code would have shown for them.
oh well flexy arms will have to wrap about intake manifold to get to them,
as for coolant sensor temp gauge seems to always sit half way, And I hope the maf is not faulty
